How To Get A Loan With Bad Credit
Many people feel it's impossible to get a bad credit loan, but this is simply not the case. It's more difficult to get personal, unsecured loans when you have bad credit of course, but it's definitely not impossible. In fact, there are many finance companies around these days who specialize in giving loans to people with bad credit.
The first thing you'll need to do though, is figure out just how bad your credit is. Many people think their credit is too bad to get a loan, when it's not actually too bad at all. The two primary things you need to know about your credit is the overall credit score, and the credit history.
Your credit score is a computation arrived at by credit reporting agencies, and this score takes hundreds of different things into account. Some things can pull your score down while others will help boost it up. Some of the items that can affect your credit score include whether you own a home or rent, how long you've been at your current job, whether you have any open credit accounts, whether you have any past due accounts or old unpaid accounts, and so on.
Now sometimes things affect your credit score in ways you might not realize. If you have too many open credit accounts with high outstanding balances for instance, this can bring your credit score down. So one easy way to boost that score is to simply pay off a few of your accounts. Likewise if you have several old accounts open, even without any outstanding balances, this can bring down your credit score. So closing those will help too.
If your credit score is below 540, then you're considered to be a credit risk. In other words, yes you have bad credit, so getting a loan may be more difficult and costly for you. If your score is above 540 though, your credit is not as bad as you may have thought. And if it's above 600-620 or so, you actually have good credit.
Your credit history is another important part of whether you'll be able to get a bad credit loan. If your credit report shows you have a history of opening accounts and never paying as agreed, you're going to have a much harder time getting a loan. If however, your credit report is bad simply because of one problem that came up five years ago, and everything else has been fine since then, you may not have as difficult a time getting your bad credit loan.
Before applying for any loan however, you'll need to make sure you've been living and working at the same places for a reasonable amount of time. If you've moved in the last six months for instance, this will look bad on your loan application. The longer you've worked at one job, and the longer you've lived in one place, the better chances you have of getting your bad credit loan.
Your income is important too though, particularly as it relates to your outstanding debt. If your debt to income ratio is too high, this can make getting even a bad credit loan more difficult to do.
